In his speech, John recalled the journey of curating this exhibition, seeing people across generations and regions voluntarily come together to excavate, share, and promote the untold story of the Chinese Navy's participation in D-Day. This rekindled passions and allowed for a renewed understanding of Hong Kong's longstanding international connections, truly exemplifying the profound contemporary significance of this project.
Angus then shared his views on providing historical context. He first expressed gratitude to all those who fought on D-Day, laying the foundations for victory in World War II. For these memories to endure through the ages, human stories are indispensable. While the details of history may not be familiar to all, relating personal stories from that time helps resonate with wider audiences, as their circumstances and emotions can still be felt today. This lends history a more intimate perspective.
